Gin and Tonic at the Strand

Yangon.3-8Scaramouchine followed in the footsteps of George Orwell again and enjoyed a gin and tonic in the Strand Hotel bar. An expat feature of colonial Rangoon, the Strand Hotel has been lavishly restored and stands in marked contrast to the slowly disintegrating buildings that surround it.

Reading the newspapers. The bar provides a bound copy of old English language newspapers from colonial-era Burma.

    • Yes, the Strand was beautiful and so historic! The neighbourhood was very interesting but crumbling to bits. The post on the breakfast at the beach side hotel is under ‘The Food of Ngapali’. To my shame I haven’t posted my Japan or Bali photos yet (Life speeds by). Thank you for looking!
